Most calculators ask for broad inputs (age, dependents, income). But settlement value usually turns on things a calculator can’t measure well, such as:
- Who was actually at fault when multiple vehicles, road conditions, or traffic control issues were involved
- Whether the death was medically caused by the incident (defense often disputes causation)
- How well the family’s losses are documented (funeral expenses, lost support, caregiving impact)
- Insurance coverage and policy limits available to pay a settlement
In other words, two families can enter the same “age + income” data and end up with very different results once liability and damages are proven.
