Most online calculators assume the case looks like a typical template: an age range, a rough income number, and a generic damage multiplier. But wrongful death settlement value is not driven by math alone.
In practice, Illinois cases can swing based on:
- Who was actually at fault after an investigation of traffic control, driving behavior, and witness accounts
- Whether the death was caused by the incident or by a preexisting medical condition (a common dispute in fatal accident claims)
- How well damages are documented, including funeral costs, financial support, and the impact on surviving family members
- Insurance policy limits and whether there may be additional coverage beyond a single defendant
A calculator may suggest a range, but without the evidence that supports (or undermines) liability and causation, the number can be wildly off.
