Generic online tools typically ask for age, income, and a few broad facts. Those inputs can’t capture what often drives settlement value in the real world, such as:
- Whether fault is disputed (common in collision cases involving multiple contributing factors)
- How quickly medical records show the injury-to-death connection
- Whether witnesses and evidence are available locally (statements, footage, scene documentation)
- Insurance coverage realities—including limits and whether the at-fault party’s policy is the only source of recovery
In other words, a calculator may give a “possible range,” but it can’t see what a court will see: the proof.
