Many online calculators assume a “standard” case. But Washington-area workers often run into variables that don’t show up in generic models:
- Seasonal work and schedule changes: Symptoms may flare during physically demanding weeks, then calm down—making it harder to show a consistent work-to-injury narrative.
- Commuting and job-site documentation: If your injury occurred during travel to a job location or while working across multiple sites, the paperwork around incident timing and reporting becomes critical.
- Injury reporting gaps: Delays in getting treatment (even for reasonable reasons like scheduling or cost concerns) can lead insurers to question causation.
- Independent medical exams (IMEs): In Pennsylvania, an insurer may rely on an exam that disputes the severity or permanence of your condition.
When these factors are present, the “number” from a calculator can be misleading—either too high or too low.
