Most online calculators are built from general assumptions—typically combining medical costs, wage replacement, and the possibility of future treatment or impairment.
In Massachusetts, the outcome of a workers’ comp matter isn’t determined by a single formula. Two people can plug in similar numbers and get very different results because the insurer and the system evaluate:
- whether the injury is work-related and supported by medical reasoning,
- what benefits you’ve already received,
- whether you have restrictions that limit your ability to earn the same wages,
- and whether your condition has stabilized enough for permanency discussions.
So, use a calculator as a starting point—not a promise. The most important “calculation” is the one your claim file supports.
