Many online tools estimate a range based on factors like wages, medical bills, and the amount of time you’re unable to work. That’s helpful as a starting point.
But calculators often miss the details that matter most in Illinois workers’ compensation claims, such as:
- Whether your injury was reported quickly and consistently (important when an employer argues the injury wasn’t work-related).
- How your restrictions were documented after treatment—especially if you work jobs that require standing, lifting, or driving between sites.
- Whether your medical records match your job duties (for example, a back or shoulder injury that flares with repetitive work or vehicle loading/unloading).
- Whether your earnings reflect shift patterns (overtime, rotating schedules, or temporary assignments can affect how lost earning capacity is argued).
In other words: a tool may give you a figure, but the claim file determines whether that figure is close to reality.
