Many online calculators assume a generic injury and generic wages. In real California workers’ comp cases, small differences can change the value of benefits and any settlement discussions—such as:
- When you reported the injury and how clearly the incident was described
- Whether medical care started promptly after the accident or symptom onset
- Whether your work restrictions were documented (and whether you could actually follow them)
- How your treating provider describes causation (work-relatedness) and functional limits
If you’re looking at a calculator that doesn’t reflect those specifics, its output is at best a rough placeholder.
