In the weeks when wildfire smoke drifts into north Orange County and the surrounding region, exposure often occurs during normal routines:
- Morning commutes and errands when air quality is already deteriorating
- Outdoor work shifts (including construction, warehousing, landscaping, and maintenance)
- School drop-offs and youth sports where kids can’t avoid breathing in fine particles
- Home ventilation when windows are opened for comfort and filtration isn’t adequate
Because La Palma is part of a heavily traveled corridor, timing matters. Many people don’t realize the smoke triggered symptoms until they notice the pattern—worsening during smoke days, then partially improving when conditions clear.
