Online tools are usually built for estimates. They may ask about age, injury severity, hospital time, and lost income, then output a rough range.
That can be useful for early orientation, but after a spinal cord injury, outcomes rarely follow a simple pattern. Two people can receive similar initial diagnoses and still face very different futures depending on:
- how quickly symptoms stabilize or worsen
- whether complications require additional treatment
- the extent of functional limitations (including bladder/bowel and mobility needs)
- how consistent the medical timeline is from the accident through diagnosis
In other words: a spreadsheet can’t see your imaging reports, rehab progress, or the day-to-day assistance your family ends up providing.
