Most calculators are built around averages. That can be useful for a rough starting point, but spinal cord injuries don’t follow a spreadsheet.
In practice, insurers weigh things like:
- Whether the injury appears consistent with the crash/incident mechanics (force, direction of impact, symptoms right after the event)
- How quickly and clearly the injury was documented (ER notes, imaging, specialist findings)
- What treatment has been required since then (rehab intensity, follow-up care, assistive needs)
- Whether future care is predictable or still evolving (which affects negotiation leverage)
A calculator can’t measure those factors. What it can do is help you understand what information matters most so you can organize it before speaking with adjusters.
