Online tools can be useful for understanding categories of damages (medical bills, wage loss, long-term care, and non-economic harm). But with spinal cord injuries, the number most tools spit out is only as good as the assumptions.
In practice, insurers in California often focus on:
- Medical documentation quality (timelines, imaging, neurologic findings, and follow-up)
- Causation (whether the incident is medically supported as the cause of the spinal injury)
- Functional impact (how the injury affects daily activities, work capacity, and need for assistance)
- Future care credibility (whether projected needs are supported by treating providers)
A calculator can’t reliably measure those elements. A strong demand package can.
