In many parts of Southwest Louisiana, herbicides are used on:
- Home and neighborhood landscaping (including routine “weed control” schedules)
- Commercial properties near busy corridors and retail areas
- Work sites where maintenance crews handle vegetation after treatment
- Recreational or residential properties where family members share equipment or walk through treated areas
Exposure can happen more than one way. Some people apply herbicide directly; others get exposed later when they mow, trim, weed, or handle yard debris that carries residue. In households where one person works with chemicals, clothing, boots, gloves, and tools can also bring residue home.
When symptoms persist or a doctor identifies a serious condition, the key question becomes whether the illness is medically connected to glyphosate-based herbicide exposure.
