Falls can happen even with good intentions. But in nursing home settings, preventable problems are common—especially when a resident’s risk level is known and still not adequately managed.
In Ramsey and throughout New Jersey, we frequently see fall-related cases where the facility’s procedures didn’t match the resident’s needs, such as:
- Transfer and mobility failures (toileting, bed-to-chair moves, wheelchair transfers)
- Bathroom hazard issues (slippery surfaces, missing grab support, unsafe layout)
- Medication-related balance problems when changes weren’t monitored closely
- Inadequate supervision for residents with cognitive impairment or wandering risk
- Broken equipment or poor maintenance that increases slip-and-trip likelihood
What matters legally and practically is whether the facility acted reasonably under the circumstances—and whether any shortfall contributed to the resident’s harm.
