Many people begin searching online after a confusing sequence—missed lab results, delayed diagnosis, medication mix-ups, discharge issues, or complications that don’t seem to match the care that was described. In a smaller community, it’s also common that patients share physicians, hospitals, and referral networks, which can make records and timelines feel especially important.
Online tools may offer a “range,” but they can’t verify:
- whether your injury was actually caused by the alleged mistake
- whether the provider’s conduct fell below the standard of care in the circumstances
- what your medical records show (and what they don’t)
In other words, calculators may estimate potential, but settlement negotiations usually turn on proof.
