Online tools may estimate value based on injury type, treatment, or days missed—but they can’t see the evidence your adjuster will see. In Illinois, insurers commonly scrutinize:
- Consistency of your timeline (what you reported at the time vs. later)
- Medical documentation (ER notes, follow-ups, whether infection or deeper tissue injury was treated)
- Who had control of the dog and whether the bite occurred in a foreseeable situation
- Whether fault is disputed (especially when the dog owner claims provocation or that the visitor “entered a restricted area”)
That’s why a calculator is best used as a starting point—not a substitute for evaluating your specific medical records and the incident details.
