Schenectady has a mix of industrial activity, commercial work, and older housing stock. That combination can create real-world exposure risks, such as:
- Industrial and manufacturing work where cleaning chemicals, solvents, cutting fluids, degreasers, and process chemicals are used or stored near workers.
- Construction and maintenance involving dust control, sealants, adhesives, epoxy coatings, and chemical-based remediation.
- Residential and multifamily property incidents—for example, unsafe use of strong cleaners, pesticide or pest-treatment products, or improper handling during move-outs/remodeling.
- Transit and delivery-related exposures when vehicles, loading areas, or storage containers are involved and fumes/odors spread.
Even if the chemical is “part of the process,” the question is whether the responsible party provided appropriate training, labeling, ventilation, protective equipment, and safe handling procedures.
