A settlement calculator usually asks for a few basic inputs such as medical costs, lost income, and property damage. That may sound helpful, but Massachusetts car accident claims often turn on legal and insurance issues that a generic tool does not evaluate well. In many MA crashes, the first source of medical and wage-loss benefits is Personal Injury Protection, often called PIP. A calculator may not explain how PIP interacts with health insurance, whether your injuries meet the threshold to pursue a broader bodily injury claim, or how fault disputes may affect negotiations beyond the no-fault stage.
This is one reason online estimates can be misleading. Two people with similar medical bills may have very different cases depending on how the crash happened, what insurance coverage exists, whether there is evidence of a serious injury, and whether the insurer challenges the connection between the crash and the treatment. In Massachusetts, understanding the structure of the claim is often just as important as understanding the amount of the losses.
