Most online tools use broad ranges based on burn severity. They rarely reflect the specific factors that come up in Central Illinois cases, such as:
- Treatment delays caused by scheduling, travel, or return-to-work pressure (common when people juggle work shifts and medical appointments)
- Workplace documentation issues when an incident occurred at a facility with internal reporting procedures
- Complications that emerge after the initial emergency visit, including infection risk, nerve pain, or breathing symptoms following smoke exposure
- Disputes over causation—for example, whether the symptoms are consistent with the mechanism of injury
A calculator can be a starting point for questions. But it shouldn’t be treated like a prediction.
