An AI tool may look at a few inputs (age, relationship, medical bills) and generate a “range.” That can be a starting point, but it often falls short for Oregon families because fatal cases here tend to involve fact patterns with real-world complexity, such as:
- Crash causation disputes (speed, lane position, distraction, road conditions, or failure to yield)
- Timing gaps between the incident and complications that lead to death
- Multiple potential responsible parties (drivers, employers, contractors, vehicle owners, property operators)
- Insurance posture differences depending on whether fault is clearly supported or actively contested
When liability is disputed, settlement value can change dramatically. A calculator can’t assess witness credibility, interpret conflicting reports, or spot missing documentation.
