Most AI tools work by taking a few inputs (age, relationship, medical costs, general incident type) and producing a “range.” That can feel helpful, but it often overlooks the issues that decide outcomes in Illinois:
- Fault disputes in traffic fatalities. In and around Mattoon, police reports, witness statements, and vehicle data can become the difference between a clear liability case and a contested one.
- Causation questions. Defenses may argue the death was caused by preexisting conditions, delayed complications, or other intervening factors.
- Insurance limits and coverage. Even when a family has real losses, recoveries can be limited by policy terms, coverage disputes, and how insurers assess risk.
- Documentation gaps. An AI tool can’t see what’s missing—like incomplete records from the scene, unclear timelines, or missing wage documentation.
In other words: an online death compensation estimate might suggest a number, but it can’t evaluate the evidence strength that drives negotiation in real cases.
