UM coverage often comes into play when the other driver:
- doesn’t have insurance,
- cannot be identified (common in certain hit-and-run scenarios), or
- is allegedly insured but the policy doesn’t meet the UM requirements after investigation.
In a tourist-heavy coastal city like Asbury Park, the “who did this” question can get complicated fast. Footage may exist—boardwalk cameras, nearby businesses, or traffic systems—but it can also be overwritten or lost if you wait. Witnesses may leave town. Vehicles may be towed and released quickly.
If the other driver’s insurance status is unclear, your UM claim may still depend on the same core facts: how the crash happened and how the injuries connect to it.
