After a crash where the other driver is uninsured, your next steps can affect settlement value and even whether your claim stalls.
Do these right away:
- Get the police report number (and a copy if available). In Nebraska, the report is often the first document insurers rely on.
- Document what you can while it’s fresh: photos of vehicle damage, roadway conditions, traffic signals/signage, and any injuries you can see.
- Preserve contact information for witnesses—especially if the incident happened near commercial areas or during high traffic times.
- Follow medical advice and keep treatment appointments. If your symptoms change, tell your provider promptly so your records reflect what’s happening.
Be cautious with adjuster questions. Insurers may ask for recorded statements or details that can later be used to challenge causation or damages. If you’re unsure what to say, ask for guidance first.
