In the real world, “uninsured” doesn’t always mean a driver purposely avoids coverage. Sometimes it’s the result of:
- Untraceable vehicles (including situations that start as “hit-and-run” before more details surface)
- Lapses in coverage that appear only after claim investigation
- Drivers who carry minimum coverage that doesn’t fit the damages involved
- Traffic stop-and-go collisions where fault is disputed later, even if the crash felt clear at the time
With high daily traffic, it’s also common for evidence to disappear quickly—dashcam clips, store surveillance footage, or traffic camera recordings may not be preserved unless requested promptly.
