The fastest way to protect your UM claim is to control the evidence early—before it disappears.
Within the first few days, prioritize:
- Medical treatment and follow-up: Florida insurers commonly look for consistent care. If symptoms change, document that through the medical record.
- Crash documentation you can still capture: Photos of vehicle positions, visible damage, traffic control devices, and the road surface.
- Witness info while it’s fresh: On high-traffic routes and near tourist areas, witnesses may be gone quickly.
- Police report details: Make sure the report includes the facts about lanes, signals, and how the crash occurred.
- Insurance communications: Keep everything. If you’re asked to give a statement, don’t do it casually.
If your case involves a hit-and-run or you suspect the other driver won’t be traceable, early evidence preservation becomes even more important.
