In Cairo, people commonly suspect an exposure after a noticeable change—new headaches or breathing issues, skin irritation, unusual fatigue, neurological symptoms, or recurring flare-ups. The triggering events are often practical and local:
- Maintenance or renovation work in rental homes or commercial spaces (dust, solvents, adhesives, insulation)
- Worksite chemical handling (cleaning products, fuels, solvents, pesticides or agricultural chemicals)
- Poor ventilation or HVAC failures in older buildings
- Water intrusion, remediation, or mold conditions after storms
The problem is that early documents disappear. Safety logs may be overwritten, air testing may never be shared, and employers/landlords may treat complaints as “isolated.” If you wait too long, the story becomes harder to verify.
