Local cases often turn on details that seem small in the moment—especially where multiple people had access to the pool area.
Within the first day or two, try to:
- Get medical evaluation even if the harm seems minor (head impacts, breathing irritation, and post-incident symptoms can worsen).
- Photograph the scene from multiple angles: deck condition, lighting, barriers, posted rules/signage, and any visible defects.
- Request preservation of footage if the pool is in a building with cameras. Footage can be overwritten quickly.
- Write down a timeline while it’s fresh: weather/lighting, who was present, what safety features were working (or not), and what you noticed right before the injury.
If the incident involved a community pool or rental property, you may also want to gather any incident report given by staff, management, or the owner—then keep copies of everything you receive.
