In a smaller community, property owners and managers may manage multiple buildings or facilities through shared maintenance teams. That can be helpful—until it isn’t. Many staircase injury claims come down to whether the responsible party had notice of the hazard and failed to fix it.
In practice, we look for:
- Prior repair requests for loose handrails, worn treads, uneven steps, or lighting problems
- Maintenance/inspection logs for the stairwell or common entry
- Incident reports from staff (when available)
- Proof of how long the condition existed before your fall
If the hazard was visible, recurring, or reported before your accident, that’s often where liability becomes strongest.
