Right after a crash, your priorities should be medical and safety—but your next steps can strongly affect a claim later.
1) Get checked and keep records. Even if you feel “okay” after a rideshare incident near downtown Ithaca, South Hill, or along Route 13, symptoms can show up days later. In New York, insurers often scrutinize treatment timing.
2) Preserve ride proof while it’s still available. Screenshots of the trip in the app, driver details, pickup/drop-off, and timestamps can help connect your injury to the specific ride.
3) Write down the details while memory is fresh. Include:
- where you were sitting (front/back)
- how the vehicle moved right before impact
- what you saw or heard (sudden braking, swerving, impact location)
- nearby landmarks (bus stop area, crosswalk, parking lot entrance)
4) Be careful with statements to insurers. Adjusters may ask questions early. A short, casual answer can later be used to argue the injury wasn’t caused by the crash or that liability is shared.
