The first hours after a crash can shape the outcome of your case. While you’re focused on recovery, you can still take steps that make later insurance decisions easier and fairer:
- Get the right medical documentation early. In New York, delays can give insurers an opening to argue symptoms weren’t caused by the crash.
- Preserve ride details immediately. Screenshot the trip confirmation, driver name, and timestamps from the app.
- Write down what you remember—before insurance contacts you. Include where you were picked up/dropped off, how the vehicle was moving (turning, stopping, changing lanes), and what you felt right after impact.
- Request copies of the crash report. If police were called, the report can be a key reference point for fault.
If an adjuster contacts you quickly, don’t assume “being cooperative” helps. Early statements can be used later to minimize injuries or shift blame.
