In the first 24–72 hours, your actions can influence how insurers evaluate the claim. Before you worry about “legal questions,” focus on protecting the record:
- Report the crash and get a copy of the police report when one is filed. Even if the ride is handled through an app, the incident still needs an official record.
- Seek medical care right away (urgent care or emergency evaluation if needed). Delayed treatment can give insurers a reason to claim your injuries weren’t caused by the crash.
- Capture ride and scene details: screenshots of the trip, driver name/photo, pickup/drop-off, timestamps, and any in-app messages.
- Document what you feel, not just what you see. Neck pain, headaches, dizziness, and back injuries are common after sudden stops and side impacts.
- Avoid over-sharing with anyone from insurance until you understand how your statement could be used.
If you’re thinking, “I just want to tell my side—what’s the harm?” the harm is that adjusters often use early statements to dispute causation, minimize symptoms, or argue the wrong coverage applies.
