In the first 24–72 hours, your priority is medical care. Your next priority is preserving the evidence that often disappears or gets contested.
Do these things promptly:
- Report the incident and document what you can (photos of vehicle damage, the scene, traffic conditions, and any visible injuries).
- Save your ride details: ride receipt, driver name/vehicle info, timestamps, and any in-app messages.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh—what you saw, heard, felt, and where you were seated.
- Get treatment and follow up. Insurance companies frequently challenge claims when there’s a gap between the crash and medical care.
Avoid common pitfalls:
- Don’t provide a recorded or written statement that you haven’t reviewed with counsel.
- Don’t rush into a settlement before your doctors can explain the full impact of the injury.
- Don’t assume “the rideshare app will handle everything.” In many cases, multiple coverage streams get involved.
