What you do right away can affect whether your claim gets paid and how quickly it moves.
Before you leave the scene (if you’re able):
- Take photos of the vehicles, visible injuries, roadway conditions, and traffic control (signals, crosswalks, stop signs).
- Get the rideshare driver’s name and vehicle information and confirm the trip details in the app.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh—lane position, speed, turns, whether anyone braked suddenly, and how the ride felt right before impact.
Then focus on medical care:
- In California, insurers may dispute the connection between the crash and your symptoms. A prompt medical evaluation helps establish that link.
- Follow treatment recommendations and keep records (visits, imaging, prescriptions, physical therapy, and work restrictions).
One key caution: avoid rushing into a recorded statement or signing anything you don’t understand. Early “helpful” statements can be used later to minimize injuries.
