Right after a collision, the steps you take in the first hours can affect whether your claim is accepted, delayed, or undervalued later.
Focus on: (1) medical care, (2) evidence, and (3) accurate reporting.
- Get evaluated promptly. California insurance companies commonly look for medical documentation that links your symptoms to the crash.
- Request and preserve the crash report information. If law enforcement responded, note report details.
- Capture ride proof while it’s still available. Screenshots of the trip confirmation, pickup/drop-off details, and driver information can prevent confusion later.
- Write down what you remember immediately. Include traffic conditions, lane position, turn signals/traffic light timing (if applicable), and any passenger impact (sudden braking, door opening, etc.).
If you’ve already spoken with an adjuster, don’t panic—just be cautious about repeating details. In California, statements can be used to challenge causation or minimize damages.
