The first priority is medical care. Even if you feel “okay,” California law doesn’t require symptoms to be immediate for them to be compensable—what matters is whether your treatment records reasonably connect your injuries to the crash.
Then focus on documentation that’s easy to lose:
- Capture ride details from your app (trip time, pickup/drop-off, driver info, and any route notes).
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh: traffic conditions, lane changes, sudden braking, and how the collision occurred.
- Get a copy of the crash report if one was filed.
- Preserve photos of vehicle damage and the scene (as long as it’s safe to do so).
- Avoid posting about the accident online—adjusters sometimes use statements out of context.
If an insurance representative asks for a statement, don’t assume “it’s just a question.” In California, what you say can become part of the record used to challenge fault or minimize injury causation.
