After you’ve called for medical help, the next steps matter just as much. Do what you can immediately—before details get lost and before the other side’s story hardens.
- Ask for a copy of the crash report (or ensure it’s generated). In Texas, the report can become a key reference point when fault is disputed.
- Document the scene while it’s still available: vehicle location, lighting conditions, crosswalk markings/signage, and anything unusual (debris, damaged guardrails, obstructed visibility).
- Get witness information from nearby residents, business employees, or anyone who saw the moment of impact.
- Follow your medical plan and keep every visit record. If you delay care or stop treatment early, insurers may argue your symptoms weren’t caused by the crash.
- Be careful with recorded statements. Insurance companies often ask questions that sound harmless but can create inconsistencies later.
These early actions don’t “guarantee” a result—but they make it far harder for a claim to be minimized.
