- Get medical care and follow-up documentation. Even if pain seems “minor,” you want a documented baseline.
- Report the incident and preserve the details. Note the location, direction you were walking, lighting conditions (day/night), and any nearby crosswalks, signals, or signage.
- Collect scene evidence while it’s still there. If you can, photograph: vehicle position, road conditions, curb/sidewalk access, and any visible marks.
- Write down witness information immediately. In small-city and high-commute areas, people may not stay available long.
- Be careful with statements. Insurance may ask for a recorded account quickly—keep your focus on facts and avoid guessing.
