Right after a crash, your priority should be medical care—but your next steps can strongly affect your case later.
Do these things if you can:
- Get medical treatment immediately (urgent care, ER, or a follow-up exam). Hidden injuries can worsen over time.
- Request a police report or ensure the incident is documented.
- Write down what you remember while details are fresh: traffic conditions, lighting, where you were crossing, and what the driver did right before impact.
- Preserve scene evidence: photos of injuries, vehicle position, crosswalk markings (if any), nearby signs, and traffic control.
- Get witness information (names and phone numbers). In busy areas—especially around commuting routes—people often move on quickly.
Even if you’re tempted to “wait and see,” delaying treatment or evidence can make it harder to connect your injuries to the collision.
