Your first priority is safety and medical care. Beyond that, the actions you take in the hours after impact can strongly affect what gets believed later.
If you can, do these right away:
- Get medical attention the same day (urgent care or ER if needed). Even “minor” symptoms can evolve.
- Report the incident and keep any case number or documentation from responding officers.
- Capture the scene: crosswalk markings, lighting, weather conditions, vehicle position, and any visible debris.
- Identify witnesses near bus stops, sidewalks, parking lots, and building entrances—people often have a clear view for only a few seconds.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh: the direction you were walking, where you entered the roadway, and what the driver did before impact.
Manchester’s winter months can make these steps even more important. Ice, glare, and reduced visibility can create disputes about what was “reasonable” for the driver to see and do.
