In the first hours and days after you’re hit, your choices can shape the evidence and the credibility of your claim.
1) Get medical care—even if you feel “mostly okay.” Kentucky injuries can worsen over time. A prompt evaluation creates documentation that helps connect your condition to the crash.
2) Capture Shively-specific scene details while they’re available. If the crash happened near a busy intersection, a bus stop, a shopping strip, or a roadway with changing traffic patterns, take photos of what matters:
- traffic control (signals, crosswalk markings, turning lanes)
- lighting and visibility (including dusk/night conditions)
- your location in relation to the roadway
- vehicle damage and any debris
- nearby signs or obstructions that may have limited sightlines
3) Write down what you remember—while it’s still fresh. Weather, timing, what the driver did right before impact, and how quickly they could have stopped can become central issues.
4) Be cautious with insurance statements. Adjusters may ask for recorded statements early. In Kentucky, your statements can be used to narrow fault and reduce damages. It’s usually smarter to let counsel help you respond.
