Your next steps can affect everything—medical documentation, liability, and how insurers evaluate credibility.
1) Get medical care even if you feel “mostly okay.” Some injuries show up later (concussion symptoms, soft-tissue pain, back and neck issues). Indiana insurance adjusters often look for consistency between the crash and the medical record.
2) Preserve evidence before it disappears. In suburban areas, surveillance footage can be overwritten quickly. If available, save screenshots from nearby cameras (or ask a lawyer to request footage). If you can, document:
- the intersection/crosswalk area
- traffic signals and signage
- vehicle position and visible damage
- your injuries (photos)
- any witnesses and their contact info
3) Be careful with statements to insurance. A short, casual comment can be taken out of context. If you’ve been contacted by a carrier, consult counsel before giving a recorded statement.
