In the moments right after impact, it’s common to feel shaken, disoriented, or focused on getting medical help. That said, the information you capture early often matters later when fault is questioned.
If you can do so safely:
- Call for medical attention immediately (even if symptoms seem minor). Some pedestrian injuries don’t show fully right away.
- Request the responding officer and make sure the incident is documented.
- Write down key details while they’re fresh: direction of travel, what the light/signage was doing, approximate vehicle speed, and whether there were witnesses.
- Photograph what you can: crosswalk markings/signage, traffic lights, lighting conditions, vehicle position, and visible injuries.
In Nampa, where residents frequently walk near shopping centers, residential streets, and busier arterial roads, insurers may later claim the driver “couldn’t see” you or argue you were in an unexpected place. Early documentation helps counter that.
