The decisions made right after a crash often shape how insurance companies evaluate your case later. After you’re safe and have received medical attention, focus on preserving the parts of the incident that fade quickly:
- Get your medical visit documented (even if you think it’s minor). Delayed pain is common after impacts.
- Record what you remember while it’s fresh: where you were walking, what direction you were headed, and how the vehicle was moving.
- Capture scene evidence if you can do so safely later (crosswalk markings, lane layout, lighting, weather, nearby signage).
- Identify witnesses—especially people who may have been stopped near traffic or at nearby businesses.
In smaller communities and suburban corridors, it’s not unusual for video to disappear or for details to be forgotten. Acting early helps prevent that problem.
