Even if you think you’re “okay,” California injury cases often turn on whether the medical record matches the crash timeline.
Right after the incident:
- Get medical care immediately (urgent care or ER if you have head impact, severe pain, dizziness, or numbness).
- Request a copy of the incident report if police responded.
- Write down what you remember while it’s fresh: where you entered the crosswalk or roadway, what the traffic signal was doing, and whether a turning vehicle cut across your path.
- Preserve evidence while you still can: photos of the scene, your visible injuries, vehicle damage, lane markings, curb ramps, and any traffic-control signs.
Important: avoid giving a detailed statement to insurance before your injuries are fully evaluated. Adjusters may focus on minor inconsistencies that later get magnified.
