Anchorage traffic moves differently than in many other cities—long sight lines can disappear around parked vehicles, and winter conditions can change stopping distances fast. Disputes often come down to timing and visibility, including:
- Snow, slush, and glare on roadways (especially during sunrise/sunset hours)
- Darkness in darker months and inconsistent lighting near sidewalks and crossings
- Road work and lane shifts that put pedestrians closer to traffic
- Busy seasonal activity where visitors may not recognize local crossing patterns
Even when the driver “looks” clearly at fault, insurance adjusters may argue the pedestrian was outside a crosswalk area, that the driver couldn’t reasonably see in time, or that the injuries are exaggerated.
