The first 24–48 hours can shape the entire case. If you’re in the Lawrence area and the facility is already telling you the fall was “unavoidable,” don’t let that stop you from acting.
Do these immediately:
- Get the incident report and post-fall documentation (ask for the full report, not just a summary).
- Request the resident’s fall risk assessment and care plan from the days/weeks leading up to the fall.
- Document what staff told you—who spoke to you, what was said about supervision, alarms, transfers, lighting, or bathroom safety.
- Ask about surveillance/video preservation and whether any camera coverage existed in the area where the fall occurred.
Even if your loved one is receiving emergency care, you can still request records and preserve evidence. Waiting can make it harder to reconstruct what happened.
