After a serious fall, the most important step is preserving proof while it still exists.
Smyrna nursing homes may have varying retention practices for internal incident paperwork, staffing logs, and surveillance footage. Waiting too long can make it harder to reconstruct what happened during the shift.
Within the first 24–48 hours, consider asking for or preserving:
- The incident report describing the fall (and any addenda)
- The resident’s fall risk assessment and care plan updates around the time of the fall
- Shift staffing information (who was on duty and what coverage existed)
- Documentation of how staff responded (time to check the resident, whether alarms were activated, and what was done immediately after)
- Any post-fall communications with family
- If applicable, the status of surveillance video and whether it can be preserved
If you’re not sure what to request, that’s normal. We can help you build a focused evidence list based on the facts of your case.
