In small-to-mid size communities and nearby healthcare systems, delays and documentation gaps can be just as important as the medical event itself. A calculator may not account for details that frequently matter in practice, such as:
- Whether symptoms were first noticed during a weekday, weekend, or holiday timeframe
- How quickly follow-up care happened after discharge
- Whether a patient sought care again because symptoms worsened (and how those visits were recorded)
- Whether diagnostic results were reviewed promptly or sat in a chart until the next appointment
Settlement value depends on what the evidence shows about how fast care happened, what was documented, and what clinicians knew at the time—not just the final diagnosis.
