In smaller communities and nearby service areas, people often return to work, school, or follow-up appointments quickly—sometimes before records are requested or the timeline is organized. That can create problems later.
Acting early helps protect evidence, especially when:
- Records are incomplete or hard to retrieve without formal requests
- Multiple providers were involved (ER → inpatient → follow-up)
- Symptoms changed over days, not hours
- A patient was transferred or discharged with limited documentation
Even when you can’t tell immediately whether negligence occurred, you can preserve what you’ll need to evaluate the claim.
