When something seems medically wrong, your priority is stabilization and appropriate treatment. After that, the next window matters for building a claim.
Within 72 hours (if you can):
- Request your records in writing. Ask for discharge paperwork, medication administration records, lab and imaging reports, and the notes from each unit involved.
- Document your timeline while it’s fresh. Write down the sequence of events (symptoms, tests, transfers, procedures, changes in condition, and who said what).
- Preserve proof of impact. Keep appointment cards, pharmacy receipts, work notices, and any transportation costs tied to worsening health.
If you’ve already received conflicting explanations from staff, that’s common—especially when multiple teams are involved. Your goal is to gather the facts first, then sort out what they mean.
