After a crash, adrenaline and shock can make it hard to remember details. But the evidence that matters most often disappears quickly—especially in areas with frequent traffic and limited surveillance coverage.
If you can, do these things right away:
- Get to safety and call for medical help if anyone is hurt.
- Call the police and ask the responding officer to document the scene, vehicle description, and any witness information.
- Write down what you noticed immediately: direction of travel, approximate speed, lane/turn location, weather/lighting, and what the fleeing vehicle looked like (make/model/color/any unique marks).
- Photograph the scene if you’re able: vehicle positions, damage, debris, visible injuries, and nearby surroundings.
- Identify nearby cameras—for example, businesses along common commercial strips, gas stations, and storefronts that may retain footage only for a short period.
Even if you’ve heard “you can’t do anything without the other driver,” Monroe accident victims still may have options through coverage and investigation.
